The government has approved a ₹132.51 crore road over bridge (ROB) project at Deendayal Port to enhance cargo movement and ease congestion. The proposal was cleared by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.
The ROB will be constructed at level crossing 235 under Western Railway on a deposit basis, as part of efforts to strengthen port connectivity. The project falls under the Sagarmala Programme and is aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, both aimed at improving multi-modal logistics and transport efficiency.
The revised proposal was evaluated by the Delegated Investment Board to ensure cost efficiency and compliance with safety and technical standards. According to the minister, the project will help eliminate key bottlenecks, streamline cargo movement, and boost overall logistics performance.
Once completed, the ROB will enable uninterrupted movement across the rail crossing, which currently hampers cargo evacuation. It is expected to reduce congestion, speed up cargo handling, and improve operational efficiency at the port, while contributing to the broader maritime logistics network.
The ministry has also directed all major ports to map their projects on the PM Gati Shakti portal to improve coordination and accelerate infrastructure development across the country.
